The family is where Nauru differs most from other programmes. One application can cover several generations and even siblings, and the price per person is low. The rules below come from the Program Office and the Amendment Regulations 2026, checked on 25 October 2026.

Who can be included

The official FAQ names a spouse, dependent children, parents and siblings. The application forms in the 2026 regulations also list dependent grandparents and a benefactor, a person who pays for the application without being an applicant. BRIDGES adds that parents and siblings must be financially dependent on the main applicant, and that the right to include a specific relative should be confirmed in writing before filing. The detailed definition of a dependant is not on the official site, so I always ask the agent to check each person.

Why 16 is the key age

Most programmes count from 18. In Nauru the extra contribution and the due diligence fee start at 16. A child aged 16 or 17 is checked like an adult, needs police certificates and may be called to an interview.

What each person adds (current offer)

PersonContributionApplication feeDue diligence
Spouse+ $2,000$2,000$3,000
Child under 16$0$2,000$0
Child, parent or other dependant 16++ $2,000$2,000$3,000
Sibling of applicant or spouse+ $15,000$2,000$3,000

Each person also needs a $500 passport, and the bank charge rises from $1,200 to $1,700 or $2,200 depending on family size.

An example

A couple, two children aged 10 and 17, and the wife’s mother: contribution $96,000, application fees $13,000, due diligence $15,000, bank charge $2,200, passports $2,500. Total $128,700 in official costs.

Adding people after citizenship

This is expensive, so I plan the full family at the start. Under Schedule 3 of the regulations:

Added laterContribution
Spouse$30,000
Child up to 2 years$0
Child adopted under 18 within 3 years$0
Child aged 3 to 18$25,000
Grandchild$25,000
Other eligible dependants$35,000

Each later addition pays a $5,000 application fee, $6,000 due diligence if 16 or over, and the passport fee.

What I check for families

  • Marriage and birth certificates with apostilles and translations.
  • Proof that adult children, parents or siblings depend on the applicant.
  • Ages on the filing date, because a 16th birthday changes the budget.

For the full budget see the cost guide.

Questions and answers

Can I include my brother or sister?

Yes. A sibling of the main applicant or of the spouse can be included for an extra $15,000 contribution plus the usual fees.

Do children pay?

Children under 16 add no contribution and no due diligence fee, but each pays the $2,000 application fee and $500 for the passport.

Can parents be included?

Yes, parents of the applicant or the spouse who are financially dependent. Each adds $2,000 to the contribution and $3,000 for due diligence.

Can I add a newborn later?

Yes. A child up to 2 years old added after citizenship has no contribution, but pays a $5,000 application fee and the passport fee.
